Fruit will be delivered this Friday, December 9, at the school.

Citrus will hopefully be delivered around 6 am and we will start sorting as soon as possible after that. If you can be there early to help unload the fruit, please let me know so I can notify you when I get the actual delivery time.

We will also need help between 7 am and 11 am, when we will be inspecting and sorting the fruit. Any amount of time you have available (no matter how short) is always welcome. We will be working in the rear hallway near the band and choir rooms. If you have any hand trucks or push carts, please bring them if you come to help-they are very useful in sorting the fruit and delivering the fruit. Help will also be needed in the afternoon for picking up orders and loading them into cars.

Fruit should be picked up any time between 1 pm and 5 pm on Friday. Please contact Susan Kulp with any questions (see your email for contact info.)

The Murfreesboro Christmas parade is this Sunday, 12/11.

Students should be dropped off at the MTSU entrance on E Main Street and in place at 1:30pm. The parade starts at 2:00. This is a NEW starting location for the parade. There are other options to get into the campus other than of off E Main so you may want to plan your arrival route.

Please remember to arrive with the complete uniform on and instrument ready, no cases or hat box, etc. We will march down Main St and end around Walnut St, near the Music Stop. Parking will be very limited at the parade start area so make your plans accordingly especially since we do not provide transportation back to the starting point. We are the 3rd band in the parade.

Please remember to NOT bring your instrument cases, hat boxes, etc. to the parade staging area as we have no ability to transport them to the ending parade location.

This Thursday (11/17) the Siegel Band will be recognized by the Rutherford County Commission at the Court House for its success this year.

This Friday (11/18) is first fruit delivery - Just a reminder to everyone that fruit will be delivered this Friday, November 18, at the school.Citrus should be delivered around 6 am and we will start sorting as soon as possible after that. Thanks to everyone who signed up to help. We can always use more help, especially between 7 am and 11 am, when we will be inspecting and sorting the fruit. Any amount of time you have available (no matter how short) is always welcome. We will be working in the rear hallway near the band and choir rooms. Schedule for Friday night 11/4

We will be traveling to John Overton High School This Friday (11/4) to support the football team.
The band will NOT be marching, but will be playing.
Students should arrive in uniform at 4:50pm to load the rental truck.
Buses will leave at 5:20pm.
Estimate arrival at Overton at 6:20pm
Game starts at 7:00 pm.
Estimate arrival time back at SHS at 11:15 pm. We will update the website when we are departing Overton.

Important Notes: Students should eat prior to arriving at school to leave for the game.
Overton has advised us that they will be charging for all parents to enter the game, so parents planning on attending the game should be prepared to pay for their own tickets.
Since we are not marching, we are renting a smaller box truck to haul our instruments. We will not be taking the pit, uniform racks, etc.

Softball Team Fundraiser Meal Tonight
The SHS softball team will have a pasta dinner and auction tonight. It runs from 5:00-7:00 and there are six varieties of pasta available from Demos', O'Charley's, Gondolier, Applebee's, and Puleo's Grille. The dinner is $5 and includes salad, bread, and dessert.

Fruit order reminder:

Orders for the November 18 delivery are due Friday, October 28. Please include the following in the appropriate 6x9 envelope provided in your fruit packet:

blue tally sheet (this will be returned to you at fruit delivery)
yellow copy of order form
money for all orders (Checks should be made out to Siegel High School Band)

There is a box in Mr. Rhody/Mr. Medford's office to drop the orders in, or the Kulps will also be at the booster meeting Tuesday night if you want to turn your orders in then.

Practice Thursday as normal 3:30 - 6:30

If you ordered CoC tickets and have not picked them up, please see Gary Byers at practice.

Practice Friday 3:30 - 7:00 pm (we are not attending the away football game so we can practice)

Please Note: Students MUST be picked up at MTSU Saturday night after contest is over!

We will take buses from SHS on Saturday to MTSU. The buses will drop us off and leave.

All bands perform during the day in preliminary competition. We perform at 2:45. They will then select the top 8 to return for finals competition after a dinner break. We have reserved an auxiliary gym in Murphy Center to use as a staging area between our performances. Following the announcement of the finalist, the band will go to the auxiliary gym in Murphy Center.

We will serve dinner there and then go to the finals. Only adults who have pre-purchased a meal ticket will be able to eat. We had to know how many people we where going to feed in order to make sure we have enough food.

Although we have a very busy week ahead, Please continue to promote our Fruit Sale! This is a major fund raiser. We need the orders in for the first delivery date by Friday, Oct. 28.

Memphis Bandmaster trip money is due by Tuesday, Oct. 25. Student cost is $40. Parents wishing to reserve a room need to get a check for $95 to Tim.

Tickets are $10 adult for the Bandmaster Competition in Memphis- these tickets are general admission and sold at the box office in Memphis.

Congratulations to our hard working band on their performance at MCI Saturday!
As our journey continues to see how far we are going to take our Infinite Horizons, there are a few extra opportunities to fine tune the performance this week. After early dismissal on Wednesday, 10/19, we will practice 12:00 - 3:30. And instead of traveling to the away football game on Friday (10/21), we will practice 3:30 - 7:00.

Contest of Champions is this Saturday. Schedule to be released soon. This contest has all bands perform in the afternoon in the preliminary competition. They will then select the top 8 to return for finals competition after a dinner break.

We will serve dinner during the break and then go to the finals. In order to help all our parent volunteers, we are offering them the opportunity to also eat with the band. In order to plan for these additional meals, any adult wishing to eat MUST purchase a meal ticket Tuesday at practice for $5. Unfortunately only people who present their ticket will be able to eat with the band. See Libby or Ann.

Contest of Champions at MTSU is Saturday, 10/22.

The Football game scheduled for Friday, 10/28 has been changed to Thursday, 10/27. We will practice after school and boosters will feed students prior to game. Please note this is also Senior night.

Our final competition will be in Memphis on Saturday, 10/29 at the Liberty Bowl (Bandmasters).

We will leave Saturday morning and return Sunday evening. The cost per student is $40. This includes charter buses and hotel. Checks can be put in the Black Box in the band office or given to Tim Bowling.

For parents traveling to Memphis, you may reserve a room by submitting a check for $95 (payable to Siegel Band) directly to Tim Bowling. This is the total cost for 1 room. You may have up to 4 family members in one room. We are staying at the Memphis Marriott East. More details will follow. In order to make sure we have enough rooms, we have booked a block of rooms. Therefore, we need your room reservations submitted to Tim as soon as possible so we can make sure we have enough rooms or turn any unsold rooms back over to the hotel. By reserving a room with us, you are getting a lower room rate than normal, plus helping our negotiating process with the hotel.

We have started our busiest time of the year and will have many things going on. It is an exciting time for our students.

VERY IMPORTANT Booster meeting this Tuesday (9/27) night at 6:00 pm! Due to fall break and other activities, we are moving up the normal October meeting to next week.

We strongly encourage all parents to attend this specific meeting!

We will be purchasing VMI (Vanderbilt Marching Invitational October 1st) competition tickets in a group block. If you want a reserved seat in our group you must have your ticket pre-paid at a cost of $12 per seat. Checks only made out to Siegel Band Boosters. We will not order extra tickets. SEPT 13 is the deadline for your order.We are asking all parents, pit packers ,flag wranglers etc... to purchase event tickets. SEE JOHN, SHERRY, OR GARY starting this Thursday!

Most important, keep in tune with your child as we move into competition season! Ask questions if needed - you are not alone!

City Savers Coupon book sales opportunity begins 8/23 and ends 9/6. Books and order forms can be picked up at the end of band practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the duration of the event.

Books are $25 each with 50% of the sales going to the band. Other incentives are available as well.

Friday night 8/19 and Pancake Breakfast Day schedule

Hello Band Family!

As you already know, the time is here for our Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction. Below is a list of things you can do to help with the success of the event.

1) Tell everyone you know about our event with FREE Titan Ticket giveaway Titans vs Colts!
2) Don't forget your yard signs
3) Buy lots of great stuff
4) Donate an item
5) Come to the game and support our students!
6) Our official start times are 8:00 am - 10:30am. We will be ready to serve at 7:00am for early risers.
7) We ask that all purchases be picked up at the conclusion of the silent auction or after the band's performance. Payment by cash or check.

Students are encouraged to arrive early (8:00am) and eat pancakes. Band Members eat FREE!

Students should be on practice field ready for practice by 9:00am. There will be a performance around 11:00am. Band practice will conclude after performance. Color Guard will eat lunch 11:30-12:00 and resume practice until 3:00pm.

We will have the drawing for the Free Titan's tickets at 10:15am, Must be Present to Win.

Home Football Game This Friday (8/19)
Parents please be aware there has been a change by the school this year regarding Free admittance to the game for band volunteers. We have been given a limited number of passes to admit helpers to the game free of charge. These will be given to the "official volunteers" who have been pre-designated for that date/event. All others will be required to purchase tickets and enter the stadium along with other spectators. We are seeing a trend with other schools and contest for this arrangement, so it will require us to do things a little different than we have been able to do in the past.

Students should arrive early and be ready for inspection at 6:00pm. We will have an inspection for proper uniform fit.

Pit Packers Meeting on Saturday, August 13th

There will be a pit packer/crew orientation and training opportunity this Saturday, August 13 at 9:00 A.M. Our intention is to familiarize attendees with instrument handling, instrument packing, assembly of various carts and racks, storage procedures, etc.

SHS Band This Week:

Practice at normal times as already on schedule.

Booster meeting Tuesday (8/9) at 6:00 pm in the band room:

- Our Spirit wear supplier will be at the Booster meeting to display their products and take orders. We are also taking orders for car flags that our vendor will make if we get enough orders.
- We will have t-shirts for those that pre-ordered them.
- Pancake breakfast signs may be checked out to display in your yard. We are also pre-selling tickets and accepting donation items.
- We encourage all families to join our Booster club, only requires a $5 donation.

The Band and Guard shoes that students ordered are in. We will be placing another order for anyone else needing new shoes this week. You will need to place your order by Tuesday night.

We will NOT have a pot luck meal or a end-of-camp performance tonight. While the band has made good progress this week, the heat has required changes in not only our practice times, but also what we have been able to work on. Don't miss pictures from band camp in our photo gallery.

We will start selling t-shirts for those that pre-ordered them tonight. Cost is $8.

Band Camp practice time has CHANGED to 1:00pm - 11:00pm for the week of 8/1 - 8/5.

Due to the heat, we are going to alter our practice times this week. We will forward additional information as the week gets going related to Friday's schedule. Boosters will serve dinner, but students may want to bring snacks and especially their Water jugs. Although we will be outside later in the evening, be prepared for hot weather. We realize this is a change and perhaps a little odd for new families, but the students are much more productive and healthier when we are able to avoid the extreme daytime heat.

As a side note, when we refer to the Band, we are talking about all sections including instrumentalist, percussionist, and color guard members. If we have specific instructions for Color Guard, we will specify that. Otherwise always assume the term "Band" refers to all 146 students.

Additional News and Updates

We are still requesting donations for the Silent Auction /Pancake Breakfast on Aug. 20. You may start dropping off items this week between 7pm and 9pm. If band is outside, come to the band tower, if band is inside come to the hall outside the band room. You may also pick up a yard sign this week that should be displayed starting Sunday, Aug. 14.

We are still seeking additional volunteers to help setup, cook, cleanup, etc. for the Pancake Breakfast. See John Bowen or Gary Byers.

All new students should report ready to start at 1:30. Practice will be outside until 4:30.

All students (new and returning) will practice 6-9. Students must provide their own dinner during the break from 4:30 - 6.

All members (new and returning) 1:30 - 4:30 and 6 - 9. Students must provide their own dinner during the break from 4:30 - 6.

Remaining band camp balance ($150) is due.

Friday (7/29)
All members begin practice at 9 am. Students must provide their own lunch. Ending practice time to be announced (schedule is 9 pm). Ending time may be early in order to allow those students who want to attend the DCI contest to do so.

Students are not allowed to leave campus prior to completion of practice for the day. They may not leave campus in order to go pick up lunch.

Band Camp, Monday (8/1 - 8/5)
Schedule shows 9am - 9pm, with the exception of Wednesday. After the two hour school day in the morning, practice will be 12:30 - 9.

However, please be aware this could change to 1 - 11 pm depending on the weather conditions. We will provide advance notice of any change to the schedule. This is done as we always take into consideration the health and safety of our students for all decisions.

We are off to a great start with many stepping up to the plate to volunteer their time to help our Band Boosters carry on our tradition of excellence. Come find your place as a SHS Band volunteer ! A few things to note:

1) All hands on deck for the Car Wash this Saturday from 10AM to 3 PM at GFS on Thompson Lane. Spread the word come by and lend a hand, eat and get a wash!

2) We will be purchasing DCI tickets for July 29th at a cost of $20 per person up front. Sherry and I will be collecting money or get it to your students section leader via your student. DCI is an annual event held at MTSU which pits the best marching corps in the nation against each other in a summer long competition. This is an exciting way to see what a performance experience is like as well as see some past students march with the local Music City Drum and Bugle Corp.

The Drum Corps International Tour returns to Middle Tennessee State University's Johnny "Red" Floyd stadium on Friday, July 29, as part of the brand new Tour of Champions series, a unique set of very special events featuring the top eight corps from 2010.

3) Don't forget to make your purchase of Spirit Wear and fill the stands with support for our band students this season ! I will be buying a fleece jacket for sure this year! Ordering information and deadlines here.

4) Sale of Pancake Breakfast silent auction tickets will begin during the first week of full camp. See John Bowen or Gary Byer to get ya some! You can also see us for donations and sponsorships. We will explain the details to become a $500, $250, or $100 sponsor. Don't forget the pancake breakfast place mat with your business card size info for $25.

5) We ask for all families to support our auction with the donation of an item. This can be something you create or solicit from a favorite business. Our success depends on your participation!

6) Stay in touch with your students physical and emotional needs. Food, fluids, sleep, school, friends etc...

7) Visit a practice; remember to not distract from the directors instructing our students.

8) Ask how to become a volunteer, we will help you find your place.

Percussion camp starts Monday.

We will also have a new parent orientation on Tuesday (7/19) starting at 6:00pm. This is a great time to learn more about the Siegel High School Band.

Jazz and Percussion Night May 19th

Jazz and Percussion Night is May 19th starting at 6:30. Outgoing Band Booster President Randy Caldwell says, "If you didn't attend last year, you missed a really great and entertaining show! Jerry and the students have put in a lot of work and I can promise that you will be amazed at the quality and variety of the show."

Tickets are $3. This is a fundraiser for the percussion section and jazz band to cover some of their equipment costs.

Along with the performances, we are having a bake sale to raise funds for the band. We hope to have a large crowd of hungry people! SO, we need YOU to help supply cookies, brownies, cupcakes or candies. If possible, we would appreciate your donation of 2 dozen items. We need these to be dropped off at the bandroom between 7:45 am. and 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 19. If you are able to help, please let Janice Caldwell know by email at jvc227@yahoo.com.

The Spring concert and awards night will be this Tuesday (5/10/11) at 6:30 pm.

Students will be given specific instructions on their arrival time.

We will take a group picture of all seniors prior to the concert, so senior color guard members are encouraged to arrive around 6:00 pm.

The DVDs of the band's 2010 marching season are now available. DVDs can be purchased at the Spring Concert on May 10th or at the Percussion & Jazz Ensemble on May 19th. Alternately, you can complete this order form and return it to the band office.

We are looking forward to a great school year in 2011-2012 and are planning a great marching season in the fall of 2011 for the Siegel High School Marching Band. Students and parents should both read the SHS Band handbook carefully and refer to it any time that it is needed.

All forms sent home with students are also available here on our Forms page (the first 5 listed). These should be be read, understood, signed, properly notarized and returned along with any required payment by the date requested. (The first due date is May 16th; more information in the first document on the Forms page.)

These documents are needed to help us plan effectively for the upcoming school year. Your help and cooperation in completing these documents is appreciated. Please keep copies of these documents as needed for your own records.

Picnic Details

Our annual SHS Band family picnic is this Friday, April 29 at the Richard Siegel Park large pavilion. The pavilion is on the western edge of the soccer complex. Please bring enough food for your family and a little extra to share. We have the pavilion from 3pm - 9pm. We will have a brief booster meeting at 6 and will eat at 6:30pm.

We need pictures of each current senior throughout his or her life. The slide show is a great part of the evening, and the kids enjoy it as much as the parents.

A schedule for the New Orleans trip is available here. Everyone attending (including adults) must turn in a signed Trip Agreement form. We are still taking reservations for the trip! Due to the short notice and bad weather prior to the Christmas break, the travel agency is extending the time required for reservations.

On Thanksgiving morning, Siegel band member Sarah Hudson will be marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade as a member of the Macy's Great American Marching Band. Sarah sent an audition tape last spring and was accepted to this band, which has members from every state in the country.

The parade starts at 9 am Eastern time; check local listings for broadcast times. If we learn more about where the band is in the lineup, we'll post it here.

Congratulations, Sarah! We'll be watching and cheering for you!

We had a successful fruit sale for the first delivery date. Remember this is a great way to earn funds to pay your band expenses. Let's make our second delivery date equally successful.

Congratulations to our hard working Siegel Stars on their performance at MCI!!

Please remember that we are in the middle of our Fruit Sale. Orders are due November 1st for the first delivery date on November 19th. This is an excellent way to earn funds for your student expenses and provide your customers with a good valued product. We will also need helpers on the 19th to process these orders.

This weekend, booster parents can eat with the band at COC for $5, but in order for us to pre-order the meals, we must know how many we need by Tuesday (10/26) night. See Janice Caldwell at practice Tuesday to get your ticket and your email for more details, especially if you can't get by on Tuesday evening.

Check your email for a detailed schedule for Saturday (sent on Wednesday).

Prior to this Friday's football game, our seniors will be honored along with members of the football team and cheerleaders. Seniors' parents will gather in the north end of the football field, time TBA (probably 6:40).

The SHS Band has a fantastic group of hard working supporters that help our students perform their best and enjoy this special time in their lives. THANK YOU !!
